On the Thursday 26th August 20 young volunteers from The CSV Clubhouse made their way to take part in a clean up for The Moss Side Community Peace Garden. The Peace Garden is a derelict land in Moss Side which has been reclaimed by local residents. Anne Goldrick runs the garden and the aim is to develop it into a peaceful community garden. There is also plans to develop an art project to compliment the garden.
Volunteers who were part of The Summer Of Service and CSV staff spent a day cleaning up the garden, luckily the weather was fine and the heavy rain from the day before stayed well away ! A skip was donated by Manchester City Council and over a tonne of soil, rubbish, bricks and rubble were removed by the team. There a lunch break of course, with one of the volunteers making a little trip to Alvino's to bring the team back a fantastic selection of Caribbean food.
The Hulme Community Garden Centre kindly provided us with the tools to work with.
What is next!?
We will be working with local volunteers and committee members to undertake a street art project to adorn a large gable end wall at the end of the garden !
